Your Rugged Trail Companion

Whether it’s an off-road bikepacking overnighter or an extended trip on mixed terrain, the Outback hardtail mountain bike is your rugged trail companion built for the long haul. Starting with its lightweight steel frame, the Outback is ready for big days and bold adventures. Comfortable, yet nimble trail geometry places riders in a neutral position, perfectly balanced for steep, technical climbs and quick descents alike. The smooth-shifting Pinion gearbox provides an expanded range for comfortable pedaling, even when fully loaded, while lowering the Outback’s center of gravity for a stable, reliable ride.

New Features

Outback models are still available with either ultra-wide 27.5”+ or quick 29” wheels, rigid or suspension fork, and plenty of component options, and is easily configured for bikepacking trips, trail rides and all-terrain adventures of every kind. We have updated the specifications to take the Outback's performance to the next level, no matter how you ride it.

Cane Creek at the Helm

For 2021, the Outback gets several updates, starting with the fork. Pick between either a rigid and rack-compatible Cinq Adventure carbon fork for expanded packing capacity or the all-new Cane Creek HELM MKII AIR 29 suspension fork to tame any trail. Smoothing tough terrain and dampening bumps and ruts, the Helm MKII Air 29 represents the latest in Cane Creek’s performance parts line-up, with adjustable travel, suspension and rebound settings for unrivaled customization and comfort.

WTB: Where Rubber Meets the Trail

Another Outback revolution is its new wheelset, courtesy of Wilderness Trail Bikes. Available in either 27.5”+ or 29” sizes, each Outback now features WTB KOM Tough rims and Ranger tires, boosting durability and grip on remote rides. Get spinning with robust, yet lightweight wheels, made to WTB’s exacting standards for performance and strength and with easy tubeless set-up. Ranger tires shed mud and shred trails with a quick-rolling tread pattern that adds traction on even the loosest terrain.

Driven Differently

Like past Outback models, the dedicated Pinion frame design makes for a stable ride and wide, 600% gear range. Now, however, the Outback comes with your choice of classic chain or clean Gates Carbon Drive belt system.
