An efficient Pinion hybrid

Efficiency and comfort meet the reliability of a Pinion gearbox in the Amber Road Xpress. Whether you’re riding through town or as a break from a busy week, our hybrid trekking bike is made to go from city errands to weekend escapes and everywhere in between. The lightweight steel frame is designed to put riders in a relaxed, upright riding posture while options for 28” or 29” wheels let you match your Amber Road to where you ride. Powering those wheels is an ultra-dependable Pinion gearbox and clean Gates Carbon Drive Belt for smooth shifting and minimal maintenance, rain or shine. In addition to the integrated Trekking rack, add accessories and your choice of paint and see where the Amber Road Xpress can take you.

Features

High-quality materials. Innovative design. Passionate craftsmanship. Through carefully selected components we create a product like no other.

Frame Tubeset

Frame Tubeset

Stratocrom Tubeset

We have carefully designed our Stratocrom tube sets together with our production partners. We use high-quality CrMo 4130 (chrome molybdenum) steel with specific wall thickness and butting depending its placement in the frame. Load-optimized tubes are individually selected for each model so we can achieve a balance between weight and durability.

Belt/Chain Tensioning System

Belt/Chain Tensioning System

Tout Terrain TBA III (pivotable for Pinion)

The TBA pinion bridge is like an eccentric bottom bracket, but for frames that use a Pinion gearbox. The third version of our TBA is lighter, stiffer, and offers increased tire clearance over previous versions. Updated geometry also makes the welded connection to the frame tubing more robust. The TBA works by rotating the gearbox around its central pivot by turning a simple adjustment screw. The TBA rotates the gearbox eccentrically, thus tensioning the chain or belt. This lets us use fixed dropouts rather than more complex sliding or rotating designs. Because the rear wheel is in a fixed position, wheel alignment is consistent and the rear fender is always perfectly aligned and with the wheel and tire.

Shifting System

Shifting System

Pinion Gearbox

The sealed Pinion gearbox is centrally located in the frame, resulting in a low center of gravity and the superb riding experience. Because of the weight distribution, the bicycle handles with exceptionally agility and dynamics. Depending on the application, the gear ratio spans from the urban C1.6 6-gear gearbox with an overall ratio of 295% to the P1.18 premium model with 18 gears and an overall ratio of 636%. Ergonomically, it is suited to both short and long rides with stance widths (Q-factor) of just 166 for C-line and 174 millimeters for P-Line gearboxes. It allows for both sporty as well as efficient riding, as the pedaling power is applied directly into the drivetrain.

Steering stop

Steering stop

Tout Terrain Ergo-Stop II

The Ergo-Stop II builds on the features of the original Ergo-Stop. Like the original, it consists of two elements – a stop integrated into the frame and a stopper mounted on the fork steerer tube. By limiting how far the bar can rotate, it keeps your cables and electrical wiring intact and protects your frame and handlebar. Steering stops at approximately 78° in each direction, making it compatible with both flat- and drop-bar configurations.

Tout Terrain Ergo-Stop II Plus

Incorporating all of the features of the Ergo-Stop II, the Ergo-Stop II Plus, adds a newly designed parking lock to hold the handlebar in position even if the bike is loaded. It prevents the bike from tipping over, which is especially helpful for bikes carrying front-mounted low-riders, a front rack, or a handlebar bag. The latest iteration adds a stronger, bolt-on interface and CNC machined alloy lock mechanism for increased durability.

Wheel Size

Wheel Size

28" (700C)

The 28" (700c) wheel is the classic wheel size, from its origins in bicycle racing. While the 700c designator is common in North America and the UK, in Europe and other parts of the world the term 28" is used interchangeably. While 28" refers to the rim diameter, 700c references the wheel diameter, including tire. Today, 28" (700c) is a popular tire format for trekking (hybrid) bikes, as they are very suitable for daily use and perform well at higher speeds. They roll well, offer good comfort, and have a sporty look. Lightweight wheels can be built for 28" (700c) tires, reducing the rotating mass providing a quick and agile ride.

29"

The "big" 29" wheel size is, in principle, a 28" (700c) wheel with tires wider than ~50mm. Ride characteristics are significantly different than that of a classic 28" (700c) wheel, and this has expanded the capibilities of bikes in various segments. Large-volume, large diameter tires offer the best comfort as well as outstanding rolling properties. These become apparent both off-road - assuming a sufficiently low tire pressure - as well on-road on touring and trekking bikes. The ability to efficiently roll over obstacles and road imperfections helps when you want to cover long distances.

Rack

Rack

Tout Terrain Trekking Rack

Our integrated Trekking Rack offers superb ride safety and reliability thanks to the welded (bolt-free) attachment. The advantages of this welded and integrated approach become most apparent when riding with a heavy load. The Racktime® mounts enable the universal use of rack accessories such as baskets or bags. The Trekking Rack is well suited for both daily use and weekend trips with panniers. With respect to the choice of material, we use CrMo 4130 just as with our frames. The material properties of steel make it much more durable than aluminum racks – regardless of whether they are integrated or bolt-on. The maximum load capacity of our Trekking Rack is 40 kg.

Scotchguard Paint Protection Film by 3M

Our Scotchguard paint protection film protects the powder coating of your rack from scratches and wear due to the use of panniers.

Finish

Finish

T-Coat powder coating

Every frame is painted in-house with our robust and high-quality T-Coat powder coating process. This ensures a beautiful and durable finish even under the toughest conditions. The T-Coat consists of one, two or three layers depending on the component - this allows us to optimize the surface, weight and corrosion characteristics for each use case.

FAQ

Antrieb (3)
1. Was unterscheidet Pinion Schaltungen von herkömmlichen Fahrradschaltungen?
