The Amber Road Family

The Amber Road family offers the control and efficiency of larger 28" (700c) / 29" wheels and tires while incorporating many of the features of our Expedition bike models. Build your Amber Road with narrower tires if you prefer speed and efficiency on paved and hard surfaces, or choose wider tires if you find yourself exploring more rugged roads and pathways. All-day comfort is our goal, and we achieve this through a balanced and upright riding position and your choice of  saddles, handlebars, and grips. All models feature our integrated Racktime-compatible Trekking-Rack giving you a variety of cargo configuration options, and letting you confidently carry up to 40 kg. This makes the Amber Road an ideal companion for lightweight touring, commuting, shopping, exercise, or just cruising. The Amber Road is available with your choice of derailleur drivetrains, or the Gates Carbon Belt Drive system in combination with Shimano or Rohloff gear hubs, or the even a Pinion gearbox. A wide variety of component, lighting, and accessory options allow you to build a bike that perfectly suits where and when you ride, along with your style and budget. It's your Amber Road, and your adventure!

Integrated Trekking Rack

Our integrated Trekking-Rack offers superb ride safety and reliability thanks to the welded (bolt-free) attachment. The advantages of this welded and integrated approach become most apparent when riding with a heavy load. The Racktime® mounts enable the universal use of rack accessories such as baskets. The Trekking-Racks are well suited for both daily use and weekend trips with panniers. With respect to the choice of material, we use CrMo 4130 just as with our frames. The material properties of steel make it is much more durable than aluminum racks – regardless of whether they are integrated or bolt-on. The maximum load capacity of our Trekking-Rack is 40 kg.

Finish

Finish

T-Coat

Every frame is painted in-house with our robust and high-quality T-Coat powder coating process. This ensures a beautiful and durable finish even under the toughest conditions. The T-Coat consists consist of one, two three layers depending on the component - this allows us to optimise the surface, weight and corrosion characeristics for each use case.

Wheel Size

Wheel Size

28" (700C) Wheels

The 28" (700c) wheel is the classic wheel size, from its origins in bicycle racing. While the 700c designator is common in North America and the UK, in Europe and other parts of the world the term 28" is used interchangeably. While 28" refers to the rim diameter, 700c references the wheel diameter, including tire. Today, 28" (700c) is a popular tire format for trekking (hybrid) bikes, as they are very suitable for daily use and perform well at higher speeds. They roll well, offer good comfort, and have a sporty look. Lightweight wheels can be built for 28" (700c) tires, reducing the rotating mass providing a quick and agile ride.

29" Wheels

The "big" 29" wheel size is, in principle, a 28" (700c) wheel with tires wider than ~50mm. Ride characteristics are significantly different than that of a classic 28" (700c) wheel, and this has expanded the capibilities of bikes in various segments. Large-volume, large diameter tires offer the best comfort as well as outstanding rolling properties. These become apparent both off-road - assuming a sufficiently low tire pressure - as well on-road on touring and trekking bikes. The ability to efficiently roll over obstacles and road imperfections helps when you want to cover long distances. 29" wheels are well proportioned for large riders and are great alternative to classic tire sizes.

Steerer-Stop

Steerer-Stop

Ergo-Stop Steerer Lock

The Ergo-Stop is a small detail that makes a big difference. Many of us have experienced the moment - whether in a moment of distraction or with a heavy front load - when the handlebars turn suddenly and contact the bike, damaging wires, cables or even the frame. The Ergo-Stop consists of two elements – a stop integrated into the frame and a stopper mounted on the fork steerer tube. With the Ergo-Stop steering stop, handlebars can only be turned approximately 90° in each direction. This limit prevents cables from being torn off, your light system from being damaged, or your top tube being dented by the handlebars. With the Ergo-Stop-Plus, we have also included a parking lock to hold the handlebar in position even if the bike is loaded, preventing it from tipping. Especially for bicycles with low riders, front rack or handlebar bag, this is very practical.

Belt/Chain Tensioning System

Belt/Chain Tensioning System

TBA (Pinion Bridge)

The function of the Tout Terrain TBA system is analogous to that of an eccentric bottom bracket - but for bicycles with a Pinion gearbox. The gearbox is rotated about its central suspension screw by a simple pivot. The TBA rotates the gearbox eccentrically, thereby tensioning the chain or belt. The advantages for you lie in the simple operation thanks fixed, rather than more complex sliding or rotating dropouts. Wheels are mounted and removed in the same way as in a traditional rear wheel. Unlike sliding or pivoting dropouts, wheel alignment is also consistent since the dropouts are fixed. The fenders are always the same distance to the tire, since the position of the tire does not change relative to the fender.

Belt Compatible

Free yourself from oily, rusty chains and join the Gates Carbon Drive revolution: Clean, quiet, rugged. Almost no other component has advanced the bicycle as a mode of low-maintenance transport as much as the Gates Carbon Drive belt. Particularly when used year-round, you'll be pleased with its low maintenance as periodic cleaning is all that's required. Belts even last two to three times longer than a chain. Tout Terrain was one of the first manufacuters to offer bicycles with belt drives, and with more than 10 years of experience we have optimized our frames for this purpose. Unlike a chain which can ""unlink"" to fit onto a bike, a belt is seamless, so the frame must "open" to allow it to fit onto the drivetrain. Our belt-specific dropout design is an integral part of the frame and very discrete. The connection is made of stainless steel and will provide a lifetime of reliability.

Shifting System

Shifting System

Pinion Gearbox

The sealed Pinion gearbox is centrally located in the frame, resulting in a low center of gravity and the superb riding experience. Because of the weight distribution, the bicycle handles with exceptionally agility and dynamics. Depending on the application, the gear ratio spans from the urban C1.6 6-gear gearbox with an overall ratio of 295% to the P1.18 premium model with 18 gears and an overall ratio of 636%. Ergonomically, it is suited to both short and long rides with stance widths (Q-factor) of just 166 for C-line and 174 millimeters for P-Line gearboxes. It allows for both sporty as well as efficient riding, as the pedaling power is applied directly into the drivetrain.

Frame Tubeset

Frame Tubeset

Stratocrom Tubeset

We have carefully designed our Stratocrom tube sets together with our production partners. We use high-quality CrMo 4130 (chrome molybdenum) steel with specific wall thickness and butting depending its placement in the frame. Load-optimized tubes are individually selected for each model so we can achieve a balance between weight and durability.

E-Bike

Silent E-Drive E-Bike Option

The e-bike option gives you the ability to add our Silent E-Drive components to your bike at a later date. The upgrade includes a complete rear wheel with powerful, silent Neodrives hub-motor, the Neodrives V5 500Wh battery, the Neodrives colour display and all of the required mounting hardware and wiring.
