Cycling and environmental sustainability have always gone hand-in-hand. We have been living this philosophy for years in our manufactory in Gundelfingen. For those of us who start our day with a coffee, we drink from porcelain mugs rather than disposable cups. Hydration also comes a sense of style – “Tout Terrain” emblazoned glass bottles are provided for each employee to eliminate the use of plastic water bottles. The glass in our windows is well-insulated, and our modern high-efficiency lighting system reduces energy consumption. We all share in an organic fruit basket which comes weekly from nearby farms. Even the web-servers which host the page you are reading are powered by green electricity. Most of our shipping is carbon neutral via DHL's GoGreen program.
Individually, Tout Terrain staff are also environmental stewards. We travel to and from work by bicycle (naturally). Collaboration with our suppliers all over the world requires some air travel, to Taiwan for example, where our skilled, long-term partners weld our frames to the highest standards. All of our international flights and our trips within Europe are compensated through the climate protection organization Atmosfair, which specializes in offsetting the environmental impact of travel. Our TOUT TERRAIN Journey magazine also focuses on our commitment to the environment. Here you can read the cover story on Sustainability:
Building on our partnership with Atmosfair, our campaign will focus on sustainability, climate protection, CO2 neutrality and green cycling: GO2 ATMOSFAIR! The concept is simple: if you make a voluntary donation to Atmosfair when purchasing a Tout Terrain bicycle, we match this amount dollar-for-dollar, doubling the contribution in support of environmental sustainability. The more we work together, the more money we raise for to protect our planet and the places we ride.
Why do we have our frames produced in Taiwan? The simple answer is that there are no suppliers within Europe who can produce the quality and quantity of frames we require. Our partners in Taiwan are also committed to being environmentally responsible.
Wherever possible, we purchase components from German companies who also manufacture on site. This is our way of “supporting local” and reducing the environmental footprint of our individual components and supporting an eco-friendly supply chain.
You can’t spell recycling without cycling – and the words fit so well together! In an effort to bring sustainable style to your bike, we use powder coating frame paint which does away with the solvents used in other painting methods. In our powder coating facility we can collect excess paint particles and reuse them - in doing so we reclaim 40 percent of our paint, keeping our planet a little greener no matter what colour you choose for your frame. E-bikes batteries are another important topic in sustainability. After a long service life, our batteries are disposed of carefully of by our long-standing supplier. While batteries are resource-intensive to produce, it does not take long to offset when you choose to ride your e-bike instead of taking your car.
The topic of sustainability is omnipresent in our recreation, our lifestyle, and even our diets. While we cannot address every aspect here, we encourage you to come to us with any questions you may have about our GO2 ATMOSFAIR campaign or our sustainability practices. Simply use our contact form:
